FoFHH Picnic a Great Success!

Thanks for coming to the Picnic and supporting our state parks!

Over 200 people attended the Friends of Fahnestock and Hudson Highlands State Parks (FoFHH) picnic on Saturday, May 16th, at the Canopus Lake Beach/Winter Park area in Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park.

Guest speakers included Carol Ash, Commissioner of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) (pictured above, on left); Lucy Waletzky, M.D., Chair of the New York State Council of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation; and Congressman John Hall of New York's 19th Congressional District (pictured above, on right.)

The rain held off and all those who attended had the opportunity to enjoy pony rides arranged by the Putnam Horse Council, and kayak demos arranged by Atlantic Kayak Tours' Paddlesport Center.

Jane Daniels, President of FoFHH, complimented the group, saying, "I am delighted with the way our varied constituencies have worked together to put on this event, and we look forward to working with the parks to improve the facilities and recreational opportunities available to all of the people who come to the parks."

FoFHH is newly organized group whose purpose is to support stewardship of the landscape’s natural and historic resources, as well as education and recreation opportunities for the public. Working in partnership with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and the community, we support the programming, operations, and enhancement of Fahnestock and Hudson Highlands State Parks through advocacy, education, volunteerism and fundraising.

We're preparing a survey of attendees to the event, and will be posting more pictures, so please stand by!
